From the publisher of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies comes a new tale of romance, heartbreak, and tentacled mayhem. Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters expands the original text of the beloved Jane Austen novel with all-new scenes of giant lobsters, rampaging octopi, two-headed sea serpents, and other biological monstrosities. As our story opens, the Dashwood sisters are evicted from their childhood home and sent to live on a mysterious island full of savage creatures and dark secrets. While sensible Elinor falls in love with Edward Ferrars, her romantic sister Marianne is courted by both the handsome Willoughby and the hideous man-monster Colonel Brandon. Can the Dashwood sisters triumph over meddlesome matriarchs and unscrupulous rogues to find true love? Or will they fall prey to the tentacles that are forever snapping at their heels? This masterful portrait of Regency England blends Jane Austen's biting social commentary with ultraviolent depictions of sea monsters biting. It's survival of the fittest--and only the swiftest swimmers will find true love!

not one of the better novels of this type:
This is definitely not one of the better novels of this type. The giant lobsters, sea monsters, and other creatures didn't do much for me. The comedy fell pretty flat too. It would be more interesting if the author had taken a more serious approach, and worked in a more subtle theme. This jarring type of mash-up is getting pretty old. Having said that, there were a few entertaining scenes. The scene with the giant octopus is fairly good. The character Colonel Brandon is interesting. But overrall, I have to... more info
Strange Story of Angry Sea Critters (with a side of love):
I'm a little torn over how to rate this book. Overall, I think I'm a little annoyed I wasted my time finishing it. If it had been a short story, I would have given it a straight up five for creativity and novelty. The story follows the same patter throughout. The characters will be talking about the hardships in their life, mostly guy troubles, and then a sea monster will try to bite their heads off. They'll hack and slash, scream bloody murder, etc and then go right back to pining. I will admit that I... more info
Either You Get it Or You Don't:
As a fan of Sense and Sensibility, I loved it! I thought the sea monster overlay/intersperse totally worked . . . wittily even. Not only was Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters funny and entertaining, but I truly felt that some aspect of the original were reframed and highlighted, illuminating the original themes. They were living on a barren island that turned out to be a sea creature's head! LOL! Reading these reviews, I am reminded that readers approach a book from so many different... more info
Example of a fun genre to read, but doesn't rank with the better novels in that genre:
After reading P&P&Zombies, I wanted to keep reading entries in the new classic/science fiction mash up genre. This novel left me a little disappointed. It seemed unfinished, and had issues with editing and flow. Where as the P&P&Z was left as the original framework with the gore of zombies added, this take on a Jane Austen novel deviated too far from the original and it ruined parts of the story. It wasn't weak to the point I'd put it down like other reviewers have said they did, just I... more info
